Signs will lead you to the center of Pernik and mining museum. You can always ask for directions, each walker will walk you through. At the entrance of the museum parking lot is big enough where you can leave your car. The museum is unique and unique in the Balkans and one of the few in Europe. It formed 30 exhibition niches that trace the history of coal mining in little more than a century. Go through two galleries with a total length of 630 meters. Visitors enter 50 meters into the earth and hear sounds that are heard and during the work former miners. Each of them can take a piece of memorial black gold, which is more than 2 million years and which is accompanied by a certificate proving their origin. First, they see the most primitive ways of mining coal - this was done by hand with an awl and hammer. One of the interesting exhibits between the two galleries, the first electric locomotive delivered in Pernik mines in 1925. This fact became a watershed in the history of coal mining, locomotives because "retire" existing large helpers miners - horses. From 1896 on wooden trolleys filled with coal were hauled by horses. In 1922 the mine worked 350 horses, two thirds of them underground. This means that generations of horses have been born, worked and died underground. With the release of daylight, blinding them, so their stables were located in the subsurface. One of the underground stables currently used as a multimedia room, which shows the first documentary to Pernik, made in 1929 in the second gallery is located technique for modern coal mining. There you can see new mechanized complexes, which are used nowadays. The two mine galleries continuously ventilated with powerful fans. Visitors can touch and authentic mining tools. In the museum show accessories and equipment, mining phones and communication tools, safety equipment, etc. At the entrance of the underground museum is placed petrified wood of five million years. It is one of the mascots of the museum. It was formed in the Pliocene era. Ancient exhibit is also connected with the mythology of coal. Miners believed that touching it will bring them happiness. Miners had great need to believe that will not happen misfortunes underground. This is why some of mine galleries have room chapels. Entrance fee is 3 levs for adults and 1 lev for children. Discussions are held only in Bulgarian and are included in the ticket price for entrance. Dress well, underground is very cool throughout the year. Weekends does not work.
