The museum is one of the best in the country. Located in the impressive size and artistic architectural value storey building. The museum has 24 exhibition halls with more than 180 000 museum valuables, which is revealed by history, culture, flora and fauna of Pleven region from ancient times until today.

Here is the richest in Europe collection of exquisitely crafted flint tools (45 hil.g.pr.hr.).

Particular interest carry part of the original dwelling and the materials of prehistoric settlement of the copper-stone age when s.Telish who speak of a highly developed civilization in the fifth millennium BC. Value of artistic monuments uncovered in Roman city Ulpia Eskus (I-IV century) in Gigen village and late antique and early Byzantine fortress Storgozia (IV-VI century) near Pleven, documented the high level of construction, architecture, material and spiritual culture in antiquity. For the art of medieval Bulgarian culture speak elegant ornaments and vessels Nikopol treasure (XIII-XIV century).

In a peculiar way in the museum shows traditional livelihoods, people's lifestyle and culture in the XV-XIX c.

The museum has rooms dedicated to the Renaissance. In Pleven in 1841 was founded the first girls' school in the country, and in 1869 founded by Vasil Levski first revolutionary committee.

Impressive is represented by the Pleven Epic 1877 There are uniforms, flags, weapons, personal items and more. the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, which reveal the heroism and sacrifice readiness of Russians, Romanians and Bulgarians in epic battles.

Natural section presents the rich diversity of flora and fauna in the Danube plain. Contemporary flora and fauna is represented by dozens of exhibits, including several species of Red Data Book of Bulgaria and Europe.
