Pomorie monastery is the only functioning monastery in Southeast Bulgaria and it is a cultural monument. Built in 1856, but there are indications that this place was a chapel from the VII century, which bore the same name. The story of its construction is very interesting and is associated with a legend. At the end of 17c., Turk Selim Bey, who according to legend was terminally ill, settled here and built a farmhouse at the former monastery. One night of Selim Bey he dreamed that he found healing water in his mansion. On the morning began to search the place and found a marble bas-relief of St. George, under which gushed water from his sleep. Selim Bey drank it and recovered. According to legend, after this incident Selim Bey and his entire family converted to Christianity. Bas-relief of St. George is still kept and can be seen in the monastery. Selim Bey also built a small chapel to the holy spring which gave the beginning of the present monastery. Once widowed, Selim Bey donated their land to the monastery and became its first abbot, a post his death was buried in the holy spring. Pomorie Monastery is renowned for its healing water you can drink and to merge its health. Little yazmo is located in the courtyard of the monastery.
