Ropotamo reserve is located 50 km south of Bourgas and covers large areas located along the eponymous river. This is one of the oldest reserves in Bulgaria - has been declared as such back in 1940 but in 1962 this status was revoked. Rapid construction in the Black Sea and the influx of tourists in the coming years will lead to significant deterioration of the region and in 1992 the status of the reserve is restored.

On its territory are being true to these latitudes, dense forests, and some interesting and beautiful rock formations, dunes, terraced banks, marshes and bogs.

Along the river Ropotamo among dense forests can be seen lianas, and in riverine lakes around in shallow waters are habitats of marsh reeds and a beautiful water lily. Here is the limited habitat of rare plant with medical significance sea wormwood - it produced drugs against parasites.

Over 100 plant species that occur in the reserve are included in Bulgaria's Red Book of endangered plants.

At the mouth of the river water salinity is higher than normal, which is a prerequisite for the rich diversity fish - marine fishes entering fresh waters in order to seek food.

The reserve is found nearly 250 species of birds and 71 of them are included in Bulgaria's Red Book as endangered.

If you decide to explore the natural attractions of the reserve, seek the services of the organizers of boating. For about an hour of boat along the river and back you will see many beautiful places, strange rock formations, and in good time will enjoy the view of many turtles perched on food or resting on rocks and riparian plants.
