Alexander Stambolijski is one of the oldest dams in Bulgaria . It was built in 1954 during the brigade movement . Located between Gabrovo and Veliko Tarnovo Region, near Sevlievo and fed by rivers and Iveta visible. When the water level drops it can be seen how the rise of the former houses located in the village of Bara here . But most impressive is when shows up to the surface the cross of the submerged church.
The length of the reservoir reaches 18 km , which was the first such large dam at the time. With these dimensions it is a suitable place for practicing water sports such as sailing, rowing and water sports and fishing. Here fans can catch roach , ruffe , carp , perch , bream , catfish, pike and more. Facilities for recreation and water sports are built near the village of Mladen, Sevlievo municipality on the right bank of the lake , 1 km from the wall. Looking at the lake from the coast it may decide that it is not that big. Boating will change your mind . If possible , be sure to take a walk on the narrowest part of the lake in the direction of the mouth - the famous area " Dardanelles " . You will be charmed by the beauty of this so inaccessible and long bay that resembles Canyon Dam Ivaylovgrad . If you want to visit this part of the lake , the better it will be to do it by boat or all-terrain car . To any wider part of the basin , however, passes asphalt road from which there exits to its shores . If you are coming from Sofia, you will pass through the village of Kramolin . In this area grows one of the best wine grapes in our country - Gumza . There is a wine cellar where you can taste wine, a brandy and a wide variety of traditional meat dishes .
