Earth and People Museum Sofia

Earth and Man Museum is a state institution, but is created entirely by donations from individuals, companies and institutions. Housed in a beautiful building, monument, built in the late XIX century. This is the National Museum of Mineralogy, one of the largest in the world.

The main Museum's collection includes over 1200 minerals from 104 countries who are in fact one third of the identified mineral species on Earth. The museum has a further 7 permanent exhibitions: "Giant Crystals," Minerals of the Earth, "Mineral Resources of the Earth," Mineral Resources of Bulgaria "," "Minerals of Bulgaria", "Gems and ornamental stones" and "Materials". Therefore, it is interesting not only for ordinary visitors, but also for geologists, miners, scientists, technologists, ecologists, collectors, students. Hall of giant commensurate with human growth crystals is a kind of natural art gallery. Exhibits are the most attractive part of the Fund Crystals - individuals and units. Giant crystal found in nature very rarely, and galleries with entire collections of them have only a few places in the world. The exposition consists mainly of crystalline varieties of quartz: rock crystal, amethyst, morion, smoky quartz, citrine. The museum conducted a range of activities and projects, including the Sofia initiative to support sustainable development "Save mineral diversity".

Over 6 square kilometers area unless there are showrooms, laboratories, video-conference facilities, geological study, shop for precious and semiprecious stones. Among the traditional events at the Museum "Earth and Man" are included celebration of Earth Day, Day of mineral diversity, Days of minerals, Day of the donor, a Day of charity.
