National History Museum - Sofia

National History Museum is one of the largest and richest historical museums on the Balkan Peninsula. It possesses more than 700,000 cultural objects representing the history of the present Bulgarian lands for 8,000 years until today. In the museum are at only 10% of these values and monuments.

National Historical Museum was established in 1973, his first exhibition was opened in the building of the Palace of Justice in Sofia in 1984 to commemorate the 1300th anniversary of the Bulgarian state. Since 2000 the museum is housed in the former home № 1 of the governmental residence in Sofia suburb of Boyana. The main exhibition of the museum is located in five halls: Prehistoric, Ancient Thrace, Middle Ages - First (VII-XI century) and the Second Bulgarian Kingdom (XII - XIV century), the Bulgarian lands during the XV-XIX century and the Third Bulgarian Kingdom (1878 - to this day). The museum and the famous worldwide Panagyurishte, Rogozen, Letnitsa treasure, and also discovered near the village Duvanlii treasure. In the ethnographic collection of the museum is a reconstruction of the Renaissance school.

In the courtyard there is a rich collection of stone columns, monuments from different periods - Greek, Roman, Byzantine. Available to visitors and has a library.
