"St. Mary" is one of many sights and monuments of Sozopol. It is located in the old part of town and is designed and build during the Ottoman rule in the XV-th century on the ruins of pre-existing church. The church was half buried in the ground for not more than Muslim buildings around as required at that time Turkish laws.

The church has a wooden structure and is decorated with impressive iconostasis, icons and fine wood carvings by local artists. The greatest interest among the visitors causing two icons: "Jesus Christ" and "Virgin Mary". The iconostasis is composed of two series of icons - bottom row of eight large icons (two are missing) and the top row of small icons holidays (today they are not original). Since the church was soon acting church, was returned to the BOC by museum Sozopol, as in 1958 it was announced by the Ministry of Culture for "cultural" and withdrawn. Credits for the entry into force of the temple is the local priest, Father Ivan, who accept the so-called "monument" in poor condition, all icons were stolen from him, some of them are still in museums around the country but most of them lost the trail.

But slowly and gradually faith returned to the life the church, step by step to be restored iconography and new paint. The main merit of this is of the famous artist Ivan Bahchevanov from Sozopol, who along with Father Ivan actively involved in recovery.

The church yard is beautiful and maintained and it has stuck a huge tree.
