Exit to the Monastery Preobrajenski is about 6 km. from the outskirts of Veliko Turnovo, Rousse direction, has nameplates. Although Monastery Preobrajenski is an active and complex is spacious, accommodation and meals are not available. The Monastery is located in very scenic area about 10 km. from the ancient fortress Tsarevets. Lies at the foot of cliffs on the left side of the Yantra river and road from Veliko Turnovo Rousse. Very beautiful view opens from the courtyard of the monastery onto a river gorge and opposite vertical rock ridge at the foot of which is visible and another monastery - Patriarchal Monastery of St. Trinity. Transfiguration monastery played an important role in the fight of Bulgarian people for church and national independence. She was a cultural and educational center and refuge for many patriotic Bulgarians and revolutionaries, but during the years of Russo-Turkish War of Liberation was turned to a hospital. Today the monastery has a library and museum, which keep the relics of the monastery: papers, historical documents, valuable books and medieval Bulgarian icons and other works of applied art. The construction of the church began in 1834 and was finished by Kolyu Ficheto. It was painted inside and out for 3 years from the famous painter, Zachary Zograf. Mural composition "Doomsday", occupying the entire east wall of the porch of the church is one of the masterpieces of art iconpaintings revival. The frescoes of the Assumption, the Nativity of Mary "and" Last Supper "are also unique and unique mural works. Today the monastery is valid and it houses several monks.
